Glass Butterfly Pendants

An intricately-formed “murrine cane” butterfly hovers in the foreground of these hand blown glass butterfly pendants. To form the image inside the pendant, the cane is plunged into a rod of molten glass and a thin slice of the butterfly is snapped from the end of the cane. After carefully melting in the slice of cane, I create the rest of the pendant design behind the cane chip. The butterfly appears to hover over the design behind it in a very realistic way, sometimes even casting its shadow on the scene below.
